    1) Infer – I assume that some people from the post-war generation said they didn’t believe the doctor because what he said he saw was so gruesome/terrifying, it was easier for them to just pretend it never happened. (9/1)

    2) Question – Why does this gruesome scene take place at a train station? (10/2)

    3) Connection – When she goes back to the train station, she has a flashback. Sometimes when I hear a familiar song, it causes me to flashback to when I was younger and first learned or first heard it. (10/2)

    4) Determine Importance – I think her warning about the negative side effects of advanced technology is significant. Advanced technology is a wonderful tool for people trying to make the world a better place, but it certainly can be used as a destructive tool for evil. (11/1)

    5) Judge/Evaluate – I am impressed with her ability to remember faith, hope, triumph, and love after everything she went through during the Holocaust. (11/7)

    6) Summarize -
    • The author, a Holocaust survivor, describes going back to Germany in 1995.

    • It is her first trip back, 50 years after being liberated at the end of WWII.

    • She is going back to attend a commemorative ceremony.

    • She explains her reasons for writing the book.
