• Question- On page 31 in paragraphs 3-4, why is Elli so down about wearing the Star of David when she is a Jew, and comes from a family that is very strict within their Jewish religion? • Connect- On page 11 in paragraph 4, the author states that “Only one who was there can truly tell the tale.” I am able to connect to this sentence because my character that I must act out for the honors history simulation-Betty Blue- says something like that to the judges about slavery. • Judge/Evaluate- On page 56-57 and throughout all the paragraphs, the Hungarian soldier that is taking away all of the Jews Papers, Pictures, Bibles etc. sounds like he is crabby, serious, and is fine with the way the Jews are being treated. I say this because when he has finally convinced the poor women that she may not take her baby picture or anything else with her; he promises to her that she will get it all back. He is a liar because right after that everything the Jews handed over was burned. • Visualize- On page 9 in paragraph 3-middle- I am able to visualize “Young children from the local school planted trees, danced and sang, and the Pastor of the local church blessed the monument.” I was also able to picture the fear and the Joy in the eighteen people’s eyes, including Ellike that survived the Holocaust. • Use Fix-Up Techniques- on page 13 in paragraph 4, when the author wrote “My poems open the world’s heart to me, and I LOLL in the world’s embrace.” I was wondering what LOLL meant ,so I looked it up and came up with this-to recline or lean in a relaxed, lazy, or indolent manner; lounge. • Summarize- Chapter nine was a devastating passage. Throughout this chapter Ellike and other Jews watched as their beloved books, bibles, pictures etc. be taken by Hungarian soldiers and burned. Fortunately one of Elli’s most valued papers survived the fire. This is because just as Elli was about to hand over her families records, birth certificates etc. she hid her poems under her blouse. Now it’s just the fact of keeping the poems hidden from everyone.
1) Question- At the part of the book when Elli’s dad had to leave the ghetto with the other men, why didn’t her mother wake her like she asked? Did she think it would be to hard on Elli to have to say goodbye to her dad? (55/4)
2) Connect- I had a text to text connection during Section 1. When Elli’s dad called her “Ellike”, it reminded me of when Anne Frank’s father called her similar nicknames like it in The Diary Of Anne Frank, the play. (16/1)
3) Build- When Aunt Selena started to break the china and vases and rip the pillows, her sister Laura (Elli’s mom) tried to calm her down. This showed a lot of characterization for me, because even though they were sisters, Selena seemed to break under pressure easier than Elli’s mom. Elli’s mom seems to pull it together and be a good leader for her children and others. (63/4-5)
4) Infer- After first hearing the title of this book, I made an inference right away. I was inferring that Livia was making it like she had lived through this terrible journey, and that it was so terrifying and horrible that it seemed to have lasted a thousand years. In other words, she lived through those thousand years, hence the title “I Have Lived A Thousand Years”. (0/0)
5) Visualize- When Elli was sitting at her window listening to the announcement about the Jews having to wear the stars, I could really visualize that. She got mad about it and shut her window. I could picture the look on her face, and how she must have been feeling as a teenager having to be labeled, rather than taking pride in her religion. (30/2)
6) Use Fix-Up Techniques- Throughout the beginning of the book, I was a little confused about the age of Elli’s brother, Bubi. I was getting the impression that he was older than her, but I wasn’t sure. I kept reading and looked back near the beginning, and eventually figured out that he was 17 years old. (60/2)
In response to Amanda, I agree about you asking why Elli was so upset about the star. Today in society, I think we’re all born with a fear of being judged by others. Maybe, being a teenager, she felt the same way.
1)Connect: (Page 11 Paragraph 7) When she says these are stories of perseverance, loyalty, courage in the face of overwhelming odds and never give up. It reminds me of something my mom would say. She is always saying how we need to face and accept each challenge as it comes. And how we should listen to our elder’s stories and learn off of them.
2)Predict: (Page 54-55 Paragraph 7) When Eli sees her Dad being taken away, I think that will be the last time she ever sees her Dad again.
3)Judge/Evaluate: (Page 56 Paragraph 2) When Eli’s mom say’s “Eli! In your nightgown! And barefoot!” It makes me think of Eli’s Mom as a bad mother with no compassion towards her daughter. I mean she saw her daughter watch her daddy being taken away. Eli didn’t even say good bye. All Eli’s Mom did was scold her.
4)Visualize: (Page 46 Paragraph 1) I pictured Eli as being the Daddy’s girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes. Tall and lanky an athlete. I pictured her as the all the American girl. Who looked like her Dad.
5)Question: (Page 9 Paragraph 2) Why wouldn’t the patients members of the post-war generation refuse to believe the doctors account on what he say?
6)Summarize: Daddy, How could you leave me? Eli’s Dad gets a telegram saying that he has to work in a forced labor camp, 50 kilometers away. Eli tells her mom to wake her before her Dad leaves so she can say good bye. Her mom doesn’t wake her up, she ends up waking up. By the time the time she wakes up she sees her Dad leaving in the car, she never got to say good bye.
In response to Leah, I was wondering about the same think. I think that Eli's Mom thought that Eli wouldn't have been able to let go and let him leave. I also think that Eli's Mom wanted to spend as much time as possible with him before he left.
Makayla Pulver- 1st Hour Honors English- Mrs. Mayo 1) Predict- I predict that the young solider Pista Szivos is going to keep his promise and take very good care of Elli’s poems and maybe even read them. (69, 2)
2) Infer- Aunt Serena’s breakdown I think was because things were changing so fast and she didn’t want to leave her home because of all the horrible things they have heard about what happened to other Jews that went to the camps and the ghettos. (63, 2)
3) Question- Why is the guard a Nazi solider? Because he went against the rules of allowing Marta to give Elli food when Marta was from outside the ghetto. (49, 6/7)
4) Determine Importance- “’ How could you do it? You promised to wake me! How could you do this to me? I did not even say good- bye to Daddy. I could not even kiss him good- bye. How could you do this?”’ I think this quote is amazingly powerful because Elli knows in the back of her mind that she will probably never see her dad again and never is going to be able to hug or kiss him again and she was mad and sad that she couldn’t do that one last time. (55, 3)
5) Judge/ Evaluate- I think that the Hungarian military policemen is very rude and inconsiderate because he lied to the young women that had to give up all her valuables. How would it feel if you were in her shoes and go through that horrible ordeal? That was all I was thinking about when reading that part of the book. (56/57, 9,1)
6) Summarize- Chapter eight “Daddy, How Could You Leave Me?” Ellie’s dad is getting ready to leave for a camp with all the other men. Ellie’s dad telling her to look after her mom and be a strong girl. Ellie’s mom tells her to sleep and she will wake her up when her dad is going to leave. Ellie’s dad leaves and her mom didn’t wake her up so she could give her dad one last kiss and hug before he left.
In response to Hannah, I agree with your predicament that Elli knows that is the last time she will never she her dad and I think that is why she wanted to give her dad one last kiss, hug, and good- bye.
Sonya Schuessler-3rd hour Honors English-Mrs. Mayo
1)Visualize- In the scene where all the books and pictures are burning, the author wrote such a detailed and strong description that I can actually see flames dancing off the pages of my book. (58/1)
2)Prediction- I think that Aunt Serena was sent to die right away in a gas chamber or something because the book describes her as being fragile so the soldiers had no use for her. (73/1-2)
3)Question- Why did the soldiers make the Jews pack everything and carry it if they dont even get to bring it with them when they get off the train? (62/1)
4)Judge/Evaluate- I think Bubi is really trying to fill the shoes of his father now that he is gone, like when he insisted on carrying the heavyest knapsack. (62/3)
5)Builed- I think that it was important that the author described the mother as being kind of a stronger person(takes charge of things) because it kind of tells the reader that she's a survivor and she might make it through the book. (37/4)
6)Determine Importance- It seemed like the mom didn't really want to give up the keys when they were forced to leave there home, maybe it had something to do withe the jewls hidden in the celar. (38/6)
In response to Leah, I also was reminded of the nicknames of the people in the Diary of Anne Frank play when her father had called her Ellike.
1)Judge/Evaluate- I feel that Elli is handling the transitions very well, for an example when Elli's mother is saying how her beautiful braids are gone Elli replies "It's nothing. Hair can grow." If that we me I would be devastated but she just blows it off her shoulders right away. (78/4)
2)Infer- Elli is a girl that is very likable, I assume that she will make many fast friends in the concentration camp. Even the soldiers and guards like her. (72/7)
3-Question- Where did Bubi go when they were separated at Auschwitz? It did not seem like it was a very sincere goodbye from Elli and her mother so maybe they will see him again. (71/2)
4-Visulize- While I was reading the part where all the women had to get all their hair shaved off and wear the white robes I really pictured how they looked, no emotions with their identities just gone. (78/all)
5-Predict- I predict that many of the women Elli will be with for the rest of the time will become friends with Elli, I think many of them will respect her. (all)
6- Determine Importance- When Elli's mother tells Elli that she looks a lot like Bubi, I think that Elli's mother never really got a good look at her daughter and this is the first time that she really saw who she was. (71/2)
In response to Sonya, I also think that Aunt Serena will be sent to the gas chamber not only because she is fragile but because of her age. She is too old.
1)Question- Why did the Jews have to pack all that they could carry from the ghetto when they didn’t even get to bring it into Auschwitz? (62/1)
2)Connect- Elli is required, like all the Jews at this time, to give up all of her valuable possessions, which included her bike. This reminded me of when we read some of Anne Frank’s diary entries because she also had to give up her bicycle. (25/6)
3)Build- At first I thought Elli had hardened emotions since she mentioned that her mother didn’t show her much affection but it turned out she is very sensitive. First her new bike getting taken away then her outburst about not wanting to know the location of the hidden valuables. (27/8)
4)Infer- After I read about the Nazis’ invading Budapest and arresting all of the Jews and Elli’s school shutting down I knew that it wouldn’t be long before Somorja would be invaded. (22/2)
5)Visualize- It wasn’t a nice image but there was a very good description of what she saw fifty years ago in her flashback at the train station. (10/2)
6)Use Fix-Up Techniques- At first I didn’t know what Bubi’s age was. I knew that he was older than Elli. When I went back through though I found that he was seventeen years old.
In response to Sonya, I had the same question as you did. When I thought about it maybe it was to punish them more or it could also be to clean out the ghetto or something.
1.Connect- So far, throughout the first 38 pages, this book is reminding me of the Gordon Korman series, “On the Run”. It resembles a similar tone that is very capturing and gets you lost in the book. (38/all paragraphs)
2.Predict- The school has just been closed indefinitely, and with three months until graduation, Elli is worried about her report card and receiving her diploma. I think it is quite possible that the school will not open again. If not, I think it will at least be closed for a long while. (22/1)
3.Judge/Evaluate- I am very surprised to read about how well Elli is getting along in the ghetto. She describes the experience almost as if she enjoys being in the ghetto. When she first found out that she would have to move to the ghetto, Elli was horrified. Fortunately, it has taken a complete 180 degree turn for her. (48/1-5)
4.Infer- Elli is a very curious person, unable yet to understand why her bike will be taken away and why her father is showing her the place where they will bury the expensive jewels that are important to her family. She doesn’t understand why, of all people, that it has to happen to her. Upon my best guess, I think she will be going through many life changing experiences that will turn out to be beneficial to her in the future. (28/2-3)
5.Visualize- When Elli described the gruesome scene from her past, it could easily picture the events in my mind. It would be difficult to see fields of dead and obliterated bodies, some of which were friends of her, she mentioned the people with lost limbs and bloody wounds. (10/2)
6.Determine Importance- Elli and her mother were walking about the town when they came across Old Mr. Stern praying near the synagogue. They walk up to him and he makes a very eerie comment to them, “We are going far, far away, on a very long road. Perhaps it will never end”. I think this is a quote to keep in the back of your mind as you read the story. (39/4)
In response to Hannah, I also agree that Elli adapts very well and she can be a “go with the flow type of person” in some circumstances. It’s good to have that mind set when your lifestyle changes.
Jayden Richards-1st hour Honors English 1.Question- Why did her dad leave without saying goodbye to her? (Pg. 55 Paragraph 5) 2. Connect- I can relate to knowing somethings going to happen, and having to wait for it. (Pg. 62 Paragraph 2) 3. Predict- I predict they will have a horrible walk with no food. (Pg.62 Paragraph 2) 4. Judge/Evaluate- I do not think it was smart to go to the cementary and almost miss the cart to go to the ghetto. (Pg. 40 Paragraph 2) 5. Visualize- I can visualize the men leaving while the children are crying.(Pg. 55 Paragraph 6) 6. Use Fix-Up Techniques- I got confused when her mom said that she's glad they are going to the labor camps, because I thought they hadn't found out yet. So, I went back and read it and she was just predicting they were going.(Pg. 48 Paragraph 1) In response to Jake, I can visualize the gruesome scene from her past, too. I think the author remembers it so well because it was a very tramatic time and very bloody.
1)Connection- If my teacher told me that our school was closing I would be sad too because I would be excited for graduation and to see our report cards. Especially since graduation is only 3 months away. (22/2 and 3)
2)Prediction- I have a feeling that her school won’t re-open, either that or it will be closed for a really long time and I also predict that she won’t ever go back into that school (23/3)
3)Judge/Evaluate- I don’t think that she believes in herself enough to survive because she said, “ It is easiest to give up. The struggle is over. Perhaps it is God’s will. No, not perhaps. It is God’s will” (25) I think that during this rough patch in her life she should keep her attitude positive and make the best of what she has. (25/3)
4)Connection- In this book her dad calls her Ellike and in the play for Anne Frank, her dad calls her Anneke. (26/6)
5)Visualize- When Elli was talking about the people putting their jewelry on the tables in piles and she describes the shame in their eyes I could really picture long tables, jewelry piled on and sad shameful people walking around. (27/2)
6)Question- Why is she embarrassed to wear her star to show that she’s a jew? And why is everybody else excited to wear it if it is such a, “horrible thing”? (32/4)
7)Build- At first I thought that Elli was really negative. But, now she is saying how the worst is over and she now thinks that she is going to make it. (43/3)
In response to Jayden, I can connect to the same thing as you when you have to wait for something to happen even though you know it's going to happen. You just get really impatient!
Connor Dickinson-period 5 1) Judge-page. Whole book. In this situation I am judging the fact that Hitler and the Nazis are so judgmental of the Jewish people. I mean why? 2) Connect-page 16, paragraph 4 I can connect to the fact that her birthday is on a leap year year like one of my closest friend that is almost my brother.
3) Question- Page 27, Paragraph 1. My question is why do they take away the bikes of the Jewish people because it is not like they are going anywhere because it would be so noticeable.
4) Infer- Page 21, paragraph 7. I wonder If the whole family would go to Auschwitz.
5) Visualize. Page 23 paragraph 1. I could visualize the dark green crucifix above the school door.
6) Predict- Mrs. Mayo already stated this but I think that Ellie and her mother would live but I am only to page 70 so I don’t know.
7) Comment The only thing i can say to miranda is the fact that you used connect twice but that is is other wise mirandas post is flawless
1) Question-(53,4) Elli and her father are very close. They are like best friends and if separated, will become heart broken. I wonder if Elli will ever see her father again since he is shipped to a new camp. I also wonder why her mom would not wake her to say goodbye to her father before he left.
2)Predict-(28) I think Elli will be the only one who will survive, and go back home to look for the family jewels at the end.
3)Jude/Evaluate-(15,4) As I see it, Ellis mom expects a lot out of her. Her mother wanted a child with curly dark hair and Elli has almost blond hair. Her mother wont tell her she is beautiful, and I think that is because she wants her daughter to be strong. On the other hand, Ellis dad cheers her on. Just because she is not like her brother Bubi, does not mean she is not wonderful and a strong person.
4)Infer-(14,2) I think Ellis mom is hard on her because she knows deep inside she is a strong woman. She needs her daughter to be prepared for the challenges in life like the ones they are about to be facing.
5) Visualize-(35) After Elli gets her graduation paper, a boy named Jancsi Novak tells her what a great job she has done and talks about the honor roll. Right about before she is about to leave she is so happy because he said he would like to see her again. I can then picture as he looks down and see the gold star on her clothing. The look of disappointment crosses his face and it is to much for Elli to take.
6)Determine Importance- (24/all) As Elli says “it will never be the same”. As her school teacher explains that the school will be shut down, it is a horrible feeling for Elli. It is a key point to go back at the end and see if the school will ever re-open. This can make you wonder what will be left after all of this and what has been destroyed.
7)In response to Connor D, I agree. I do think it is confusing why they would take their bikes away because it would be very difficult to escape. I found out that Jews could not have bicycles. They also had a strict curfew to obey. So anything that a Jew was able to ride on or escape was taken away.
Sam Klimek – 5th Hour English 1) Predict - I am thinking that only Elli is going to survive at Auschwitz out of her family of four. (No page/paragraph)
2) Question - I wonder why the four of them are taken to Auschwitz than some other place. (70/3)
3) Infer- I am thinking that when Bubi and Aunt Serena are herded away from Elli and her mother, that they will never see each other ever again. (No page/paragraph
4)Visualize- I can see in my head a bunch of Jews with the yellow Star of David being herded into the train’s boxcars.(69/3-4)
5) Connect - How Elli made a friend with one of the Hungarian police, my grandfather used to know a guard that was at Auschwitz. (66/4)
6) Judge/Evaluate - At the part where Elli’s father is shipped away I think that the mother didn’t wake Elli up because she wouldn’t let her father go. (54/6)
7) In response to McKenzie K, I had also thought that Elli would have a broken heart if she had to see her father taken away and know she will probably never see him again
•Question-I wonder why it took so long for everyone to find out that the Germans were invading Budapest? (19/2)
•Connect-I can connect how Jews were not allowed in public places, just like how black people weren’t allowed in some places. (36/1)
•Predict-I predict that after the war, someone is going to come back to the house and find the jewelry. (27/3)
•Judge/Evaluate-I find it interesting that some people were afraid to be seen wearing the yellow star on their clothing and others were proud. I’m not sure which I would be. (30/6)
•Build-She is told by her teacher that the school is closed. I wonder what’s going to happen now? Will the school ever re-open? Will they get their report cards? Will there be another school where they’re going? (22/2)
•Visualize-In my head I can visualize the people having to drop off all of their prized belongings to the Nazi’s. (27/1)
In response to Sam, I also think that Elli would be heart broken that her father was taken away but I also think that she would have been scared for her other family members being taken away.
Trevor Rusch-English Mrs. Mayo Period 5 1. Question- Out of all the places to put a monument why did they place it in Seeshaupt? (9/3)
2. Predict- I predict that the soldiers will find some violation or weapon that they will think that they are going to create an uprising and they will be arrested and they will find out they are Jews. They will be sent away and killed. (18/3)
3. Judge/Evaluate- I think that they didn’t believe the doctor because it was so unbelievable disgusting and painful they said that they didn’t know that happened or didn’t believe him. (9/1)
4. Infer- I think they come to the people in the middle of the night to check on them and/or see if they are trying to hide something so they come in and check what they have and what they are doing.(17/8)
5. Visualize- it was said that there were died or dying corpses and that was so well said that I could actually picture that and it looks so disgusting.(8/3)
6. Determine Importance- it is important to know and be concerned about technology and more human suffering because in other worlds they don’t have food and don’t have some of the newer and nicer technology that we have and we take that for granted.(11/1)
In response to Eric it might of took that long because back then things didn't get there fast enough in the news so it took longer to publish and now it is like the next day were hear of things.
1. Question- Why does Elli explain what her bike looks like if she doesn't want to have it taken?(26/1)
2. Connect- Elli has an older brother in a different school and i have an older brother that goes to a different school than i go to.(1/2)
3. Predict- I think that everyone in the story will survive the war but I'm not sure yet about the fact that the soldiers will find a violation or not in the house.(79/0)
4. Judge/Evaluation- I like this book, it has great detail and is interesting to read about others deflect on the Holocaust than just Anne Frank.(79/0)
5. Build- I think that Elli is an ordinary kid, she likes to have fun and play but shes knows that this is a tough time so she becomes this little adult at times.(79/0)
6. Infer- I think that because Elli is so attached to her bike that in the future she is going to buy her self a huge beautiful bike.(26/1)
7. Visualize- They are a small family that is not rich but not poor either. They love each other dearly and they care about others.(1-3/all)
8. Determine Importance- I think this is important because it explains how and when the father leaves.(52/2)
9. Use Fix-Up Techniques- I looked up obedience. Obedience- to do exactly what is told to do or to do right for another.(56/2)
10. Summarize- In Chapter 2 Elli learns alot about the hatred of others to Jews during the Holocaust.
In response to Trevor Rusch, i agree to the visualization, on 8 paragraph 3 it does explain the corpses and i can see it in my mind as well.
1) Question- Why do the Jews have to go live in the Ghetto? (37/2)
2) Connection- In this book, (I Have Lived a Thousand Years) Elli is forced to give up all valuable possessions including her bike; this also reminded me of The Diary of Ann Frank because she also had to give up her bike. (25/6)
3) Predict- I predict that Elli won’t find the solider with her poems and they’re going to be burnt like all the other books. (67/2)
4) Judge/Evaluate- I think Bubi is trying to take place of his dad, now that he is gone, for example when he offered to carry the heaviest knapsack. (62/3)
5) Infer- Elli is such a friendly person and I don’t think she will have a problem making friends in the concentration camps because even the guards like her already. (72/7)
6) Visualize- When the author tells about all the books being burned, they wrote it in such great detail, I can actually picture the books in flames. (51/7)
In response to Davia Richards, I also think a lot of the people will survive, but I don't think Elli's mom will though.
1)Question- I wonder what the phrase of Hitler "We will play football with Jewish heads." means for in the future, in the book? (16/1)
2)Connection- One connection I had was when I was younger I had gotten a navy colored coat for my birthday too, but I wasn't thirteen when I got it.(16/3)
3)Prediction- I predict that Elli will get a chance to talk to Pinhas for the first time, but then I predict that the rumors will come true and then she'll be even more feared by this.(47/4)
4)Judge/Evaluate- I feel that Elli is seeking attention from her mother by the way she feels that her mother does think she's horrible and not beautiful. Also how she's almost jealous of her friend and wishes her mother would do the same. I also think Elli is just thinking about all the negative things.(14/4)
5)Determine Importance- The last two sentences I think are very important and very true in anything you do. "He says ambition is sometimes more important than ability. you can sometimes accomplish more with ambition than ability. I feel this is true because for example playing a sport it is very difficult trying to win or accomplish goals you've set with out ambition.(15/4)
6)Use Fix-Up Techniques- I didn't know what the word "Furor" was or meant so I inferred that it was a synonym for commotion. I thought this because of the sentence that I read the word from. Next I looked the word up in my dictionary and surprisingly I was correct.(48/4)
In response to Angie Churkey, I think the answer to your question is that the Jews have to go live in the Ghetto because Hitler wants the world and so he has to put them somewhere while he is getting the concentration camps ready for the Jews.
Amanda King- 4th hour Mrs. Mayo
ReplyDelete• Question- On page 31 in paragraphs 3-4, why is Elli so down about wearing the Star of David when she is a Jew, and comes from a family that is very strict within their Jewish religion?
Leah Levy- 3rd Hour Honors English- Mrs. Mayo
ReplyDelete1) Question- At the part of the book when Elli’s dad had to leave the ghetto with the other men, why didn’t her mother wake her like she asked?
Hannah Pulver- 1st hour
ReplyDelete1)Connect: (Page 11 Paragraph 7) When she says these are stories of perseverance, loyalty, courage in the face of overwhelming odds and never give up.
Mayo
ReplyDelete1) Predict- I predict that the young solider Pista Szivos is going to keep his promise and take very good care of Elli’s poems and maybe even read them.

ReplyDelete1)Visualize- In the scene where all the books and pictures are burning, the author wrote such a detailed and strong description that I can actually see flames dancing off the pages of my book.
Hannah Koepke-1st Hour Honors English
ReplyDelete1)Judge/Evaluate- I feel that Elli is handling the transitions very well, for an example when Elli's mother is saying how her beautiful braids are gone Elli replies "It's nothing.
Grant Werner- 3rd Hour Honors English-Mrs. Mayo
ReplyDelete1)Question- Why did the Jews have to pack all that they could carry from the ghetto when they didn’t even get to bring it into Auschwitz?
Jake Letarski – 7th Hour English
ReplyDelete1.Connect- So far, throughout the first 38 pages, this book is reminding me of the Gordon Korman series, “On the Run”.

2. Connect- I can relate to knowing somethings going to happen, and having to wait for it. (Pg. 62 Paragraph 2)
3. Predict- I predict they will have a horrible walk with no food. (Pg.62 Paragraph 2)
4. Judge/Evaluate- I do not think it was smart to go to the cementary and almost miss the cart to go to the ghetto. (Pg. 40 Paragraph 2)
5. Visualize- I can visualize the men leaving while the children are crying.(Pg. 55 Paragraph 6)
6. Use Fix-Up Techniques- I got confused when her mom said that she's glad they are going to the labor camps, because I thought they hadn't found out yet. So, I went back and read it and she was just predicting they were going.(Pg. 48 Paragraph 1)
In response to Jake, I can visualize the gruesome scene from her past, too. I think the author remembers it so well because it was a very tramatic time and very bloody.

ReplyDelete1)Connection- If my teacher told me that our school was closing I would be sad too because I would be excited for graduation and to see our report cards.

ReplyDelete1) Judge-page.
7) Comment

ReplyDelete1) Question-(53,4) Elli and her father are very close.

ReplyDelete1) Predict - I am thinking that only Elli is going to survive at Auschwitz out of her family of four.
